Maybe it’s divorce, anger, financial lack, addiction, bitterness, or the same cycles repeating from one generation to the next.

I used to think many of these problems were just personal problems. But over time, I began to understand that some battles are not just about you — they are connected to spiritual genetics, family history, and things that were never dealt with in the bloodline.

In this newsletter, I’m going to show you three things: first, what spiritual genetics are; second, why being a new creation in Christ still has to be applied daily; and third, how to pray and break patterns that came through your family line.

Stay until the end, because I’ll reveal one question you can ask the Holy Spirit to expose the root cause of what keeps repeating in your life.

Just like how we have physical genetics that determines various properties of who we are, likewise, spiritual genetics influence our lives as well.

When you first go to the doctor, one of the first things the doctor asks you is your family history. Why does the doctor ask you that? The doctor asks you that because many things that we encounter in our physical health is the result of things that our parents and ancestors already experienced.

If you have a family history of a certain disease, the doctor knows that you have a precondition to that disease as well.

Likewise in our life, we have something called spiritual genetics. Just like how physical properties are passed from our parents to us, likewise, spiritual things, spiritual inheritances, pass from our parents to us as well.

That is why in the book of Genesis, God tells Abraham that through you I’ll bless all the nations of the world. That is why God says that through your seed, I’ll bless all the people of the earth.

The reason why is because we carry the same spiritual lineage as Abraham.

So many of the circumstances and situations in your life, many times, are the results of situations and circumstances that your parents faced before you.

Just like how your parents have a specific disease, and then they pass that disease on to you, and then that disease is manifesting in your physical world now, likewise, your parents and your ancestors have spiritual conditions. There are spiritual circumstances that they have passed down to you, and you deal with the same problem as them.

That is why we see generational curses being passed from ancestor to ancestor.

That is why you see whole family lines facing the same problem.

For example, you may know someone whose entire family all get divorces. Their grandmother got divorced, their mom got divorced, and now the child is also facing a divorce as well.

Or for example, you see that the entire generation is facing financial lack. The grandfather was barely able to make money, same thing the father was barely able to make money, and likewise, the child is barely able to make money as well.

And so we see that these spiritual situations have been passed down from our ancestors.

Takeaway: Just as physical traits pass through family history, spiritual conditions and inheritances can also pass from one generation to another.

Many of the problems you’re facing in life, do not think that only you are facing this problem, that it’s because of your fault or just because of who you are, you’re facing this problem.

No, that is not the reason.

Many of the problems that you face in your life today are the same problems your ancestors have faced before you, but they were not able to overcome them.

You may be thinking right now, “Because I am in Christ, I am a new creature. Because I’m in Christ, all my sins and all my curses have gone away.”

That is true that you’re a new creature, but you need to apply that daily.

Even though in the realm of the spirit, God made you a new creature and a new creation, you need to apply that daily on you.

Think about ointment.

If you have an ointment and have it on the counter, but you don’t apply that ointment on you daily, then what is the point of the ointment?

Only when you apply the ointment daily does the ointment have effect in your life.

If you are a new creation, and in the Bible it says in Romans that sin no longer has power over us, then how come you’re still sinning in your daily life?

How come you still get angry? How come you still get jealousy? How come you still have bitterness? How come you still have those things if you truly are a new creation in Christ?

That does not mean that the Bible is wrong.

The Bible says you are a new creation, but that new creation occurs when you apply the ointment of God over your life.

Just because you believe in Jesus and you don’t choose to read the Bible, you don’t choose to seek after Him, you don’t choose to be His disciples, are you still a new creation at that point?

We know many people who say they are Christians, who believe in Jesus, but they have not made Jesus the continual Lord over their lives.

And so in that case, are they a new creation in Christ?

No.

Because only through making God your lordship in your life, only through continual seeking of God and seeking of His grace to transform and renew you, are you a new creation.

Takeaway: Many struggles you face today may be connected to battles your ancestors faced but never overcame.

And so in our prayer lives, you should be praying against any of our forefathers’ mistakes, any of our ancestors’ mistakes, any sin they have done, because those sins pass on to us.

We see two examples of this.

One example, the disciples say to Jesus, “Oh, Jesus, is this person disabled because of his sins of his forefathers, or is there any sin that he did?”

Another example in the Old Testament, the Bible says that the sin and iniquities of the forefathers passed down for four generations.

And so we see that spiritual conditions pass from our ancestors, parents, and all the way down to us.

Imagine your ancestors.

You have thousands of generations above you.

So imagine all the compounding of those sins. Imagine all the compounding of those iniquities.

Think about your own life.

In our lifetime, we commit so many sin and iniquities.

Imagine that lifetime multiplied by a thousand generations. Imagine how much sin and iniquity there is being passed down.

Takeaway: Prayer should include repentance and warfare against sins, mistakes, and iniquities that came through the family line.

We see in the time of Noah how Noah says that no one was righteous before God besides Noah, that entire bloodlines were corrupt because of the fallen angels sleeping with the daughters of men. Because of that, the bloodlines were corrupt and no one was righteous before God. They were continually thinking of evil.

And so we see that the reason why the people of the time of Noah were continually thinking of evil and were evil people was because their bloodline was corrupted.

Likewise, we see that evilness, corrupt thinking, and iniquity in our lives is the result of corrupt bloodline, is the result of our bloodline being corrupt with sin and iniquities being passed down from the generations above us.

And so that is why the blood of Jesus is so important.

That is why communion is so important, because when you believe that you are being washed with the blood of Jesus, not only is your physical conditions healed, not only is your physical genetics being healed, but also your spiritual genetics. You’re being spiritually cleansed in your bloodline.

So when you’re doing warfare over your life, when you’re doing warfare for your family, not only are you doing the warfare for yourselves, but you’re also doing the warfare for your future generations, because your spiritual bloodline, your spiritual genetics is being cleansed as you pray and overcome that situation in your life.

Takeaway: The blood of Jesus does not only cleanse the individual; it cleanses spiritual genetics and breaks what would affect future generations.

I have two things that I recommend you do.

The first thing is, pray and repent to God for any sin of your forefathers.

If you know any mistakes your forefathers did, for example, if you know that your dad is alcoholic, or if you know that your grandmother always cheats on people, or whatever you know of the mistakes your ancestors have done, repent for those things.

It is still in your bloodline.

So you got to repent to God, for God to forgive them, that God will cleanse that from it affecting you.

And the second thing is that any problem or situation in your life has already been pre-programmed. It’s already in your genetics, and that’s why it’s manifesting in your life now.

And so you need to ask God, “Oh God, how did this enter my spiritual genetics? How did this enter my spiritual bloodline? What is the root cause of this?”

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the root cause to you. Why are you facing this problem? What did your ancestors do to invite this problem into your life?

And then as you begin to pray, the Holy Spirit will reveal to you how did this enter your genetics, how did this enter into your bloodline.

And then as the Holy Spirit reveals that to you, you can begin to pray against it and repent for that over your life.

And as you do that, it breaks that bound over your spiritual genetics.

And as you break it, no longer will your life reflect that situation. Your life will be restored.

And now your future generations, your descendants will no longer face that problem because you have now overcome it.

Takeaway: To break repeated patterns, repent for known ancestral sin and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal how the issue entered your bloodline.
